Cold cutting and bevelling THE Pipeswizard Excalibur machine is the latest addition to the Pipeswizard product range from PSW Consultants (engineering) Ltd, who previously designed and manufactured the Mathey Dearman CGM machines. power unit is required for operation. The machine draws its power from any compressor capable of delivering 4,000l/ min at 10bar. The pneumatic Excalibur has proven its worth on pipes previously considered beyond the capabilities of pneumatic powered machines, such as the X80 steel pipes.

rivals the power of the hydraulic unit, and is often used by customers in place of a flange facing machine, due to the fact that the Excalibur can work on any size of pipe. Manufactured 100 per cent in the EU and supplied with British Standards Institute endorsed CE certification, as well as full conformity with Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, the Pipeswizard Excalibur is approved to work even by NPC contractors across the GCC who typically have very strict quality controls. The Excalibur is a cold cutting and bevelling machine designed primarily for the oil and gas industries, though units have also been sold to clients involved in the deconstruction of water towers and other large vessel type structures. The machine uses a chain to lock onto the pipe or vessel, and the cutting blades are then wound down to the desired cutting depth. An infinitely variable feed control then allows the operator to begin moving the machine around the pipe, simultaneously bevelling both sides. It is also possible to operate the machine if no bevelling is required, for applications such as concrete lined water pipes. The Excalibur can cut pipes with a wall thickness of up to 2", and can deal with pipe diameters from 6" to 6m and beyond. Cutting and bevelling 1" wall thickness on an X65 pipe, the pneumatic driven version of the machine travels in excess of 30mm/min. The machine is available in three versions: hydraulic driven, pneumatic driven and electric driven. Requiring a power unit capable of delivering 72l/min at 110bar, the hydraulic version is the most powerful of the three. Used almost exclusively for difficult applications such as stainless steel pipes and subsea pipe repair, the hydraulic machine is used by contractors who cannot afford to risk pipe shutdown and need a high-performance machine. The pneumatic driven version is a more cost effective option, as no

Utilising a unique misting system, both the hydraulic and pneumatic driven machines are spark proof, and can be used on pipes that have previously contained oil, gas or any other flammable substance. The third option is a three-phase electric driven machine, which is suitable only for use on ‘clean’ pipe in a fab shop environment, due to the electrical components involved. This machine
