The president also advised INTRAS that the ITA would be appointing its own executive secretary, basing him in an office in Germany. These changes were accepted by INTRAS while the existing contract ran to its termination. However, during this time INTRAS became increasingly aware that the overall direction and philosophy of the ITA was changing. Tube & Pipe Technology readers and many long-standing members of the International Tube Association (ITA) will know that INTRAS Ltd has been the management company for the association for over 30 years, since the ITA was founded by the late INTRAS chairman, Mr John C Hogg, in 1979. However, in February 2012 the current ITA president, Dr Gunther Voswinckel, wrote a letter to INTRAS serving notice to terminate the long-standing management contract, with effect from 30 September 2012. During the following months discussions took place between INTRAS and several ITA officers to try to implement a ‘replacement’ contract to restore the relationship.
