Tube China 2008 set to repeat a winning formula
increased overall between 2002-2006 by a total of 4 per cent (according to the Steel Tube Manufacturers Association). In contrast, China has registered an increase of 142 per cent for the same period. Since 2002, China’s exports have increased from 700,000t to 5.9 million tons in 2006. This means that for the first time China has overtaken Germany, Japan and Italy as a pipe/tube exporter and is the number one global player in the world market. China is also now the third largest supplier country of seamless pipe to the EU countries. With this strength continuing to grow, Tube China 2008 is again certain to be surefire success. Sponsorship will come from the International Tube Association (ITA), together with Chinese associations including China Iron & Steel Association (CISA), China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association (CNIA), and China Steel Pipe Association. Tube and wire China will return this year for the third time from 23-26 September, taking place immediately after the 2008 Olympic Games have been held in Beijing. Due to the Olympics, the exhibition calendar in both Beijing and Shanghai is expected to be extremely busy. Tube China will again take place at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Centre (SNIEC) in Shanghai, China. Jointly organised by Messe Düsseldorf China Ltd
and the Metallurgical Council of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (MC-CCPIT), the event is predicted to be even bigger than the sell-out show in 2006. This year’s event is sure to reflect the incredible success of the Chinese tube and pipe industry. Within just a few years China has developed into the third largest economy in the world behind the USA and Japan. The enormous economic growth in recent years
has led to China becoming today’s largest worldwide producer and consumer of steel and steel pipe. In 2006, China accounted for more than one third of world production totalling 99.8 million tons. To put this into perspective, worldwide steel pipe production

LOI Italimpianti and Interpipe Niko Tube intensify cooperation
Industrial furnace producer LOI Thermprocess, an LOI Italimpianti company, has received a major contract for a rotary hearth furnace from Interpipe Niko Tube, Ukraine. The new furnace is intended to expand seamless tube production capacities and to further improve the competitiveness of the company. In future, the new rotary hearth furnace will reheat up to 96t/h of extruded steel blooms. The direct-fired furnace, which will be a state-of-the-art unit, is to replace an old rotary hearth furnace and will be integrated into the existing production plant. A special mathematical model developed by LOI Italimpianti will ensure compliance with a defined reheating process with a constant material temperature at the furnace exit. This will allow significant energy savings and will improve the quality of the material as a result of reduced scale formation. Production is scheduled to start in February 2009. LOI Italimpianti is a market leader for industrial furnaces for metals. LOI Italimpianti is a company of the Tenova Group, formerly Techint Technologies. Tenova develops and produces leading technologies, products and services for the metals and mining industries. Tenova is near to the customer through a network of 20 companies in 14 countries.
