• No outside air venting/air handling equipment • LED UV cured coating – overall performance improvement Case study two: OCTG/line pipe

Outlined below (table 1) is an analysis of microwave vs LED with average EU electric rates. This can be adjusted based on your actual electric rates, for your own personalised cost savings analysis. Overall cost savings analysis – microwave vs LED – EU electric rate: $0.224 per kW/hour

Table 1: Energy cost calculation for mercury and LED UV light systems

Conclusion • ~50 per cent less energy costs per hour

• 40 per cent less linear line footage • Less capital investment cost with LED • No outside air venting/air handling equipment • LED UV cured coating – overall performance improvement

Outlined below are two brief case studies for review by tube producers: Case study one: mechanical tube line – arc lamp vs LED curing technology

Conclusion In the current manufacturing environment, energy costs and sustainable coating solutions are two critical items required for improving overall plant manufacturing operations. LED UV curing light solutions offer significant energy, space and maintenance savings and should be part of any future UV coating operation. UV coatings are the best and most sustainable solution available in the marketplace in my opinion, mainly due to No VOCs or HAPs, being non-flammable and containing no solvent, water or fillers. The combination of significant energy savings and no emissions is a winning solution for manufacturing companies. See the process in action BFR Meccanica has designed, in partnership with Allied Photochemicals and Qurtech UV Light Curing Solutions, a complete UV LED pipe coating pilot line for pipe diameter up to 8". It is available for visits and tours starting in the first quarter of 2024. Contact them at: BFR Meccanica – Via degli Olmi, 60, 31040 Cessalto (TV) – Italy. Telephone: +39 0421 328070.
