I ndustry N ews Aicon generates solar power AS the use of renewable energies becomes increasingly important, Aicon 3D Systems, a provider of optical camera-based 3D measurement systems, has set up its own photovoltaic system. The system covers a roof area of 850m²

and is installed on the roofs of Aicon’s two headquarter buildings. It consists of 344 solar modules that convert solar energy into electricity. “We intend to generate 32.690kWh per year with our photovoltaic system,” explained Dr-Ing Carl-Thomas Schneider, president of Aicon 3D Systems. “This would cover about 50% of our own power demands. Actually, also in the past years, we have used green electricity for our company buildings. However, now by setting up our own photovoltaic system, we are able to make an active contribution to the expansion of renewable energies.” Aicon’s environmental commitment

goes beyond the generation of power. Step by step, the company examines all its divisions and checks whether operations can be done in a more sustainable way. As an example, it has planned to significantly reduce the CO 2 emissions of its company cars. “Our goal is an average fleet fuel consumption below 5 litres,” affirmed Dr Schneider. “Therefore, we only acquire very fuel-efficient company vehicles.” Aicon 3D Systems GmbH – Germany Fax: +49 531 58 000 60

Website makes it easier to spec saw blades

TRU-Cut Saw Inc has redesigned its website to make it easier for customers to identify and select the right saw blades for their applications from the large variety of blades offered by the company. Richard Otter, vice president, acknowledged that the company’s old website didn’t go far enough in assisting customers in blade selection: “Our new website provides application and performance data on our carbide tipped blades as well as cermet, friction and hot saws, and high speed steel saws. We also offer saw blade coating recommendations for cutting popular materials.” For customers who are unsure of the type of blade they need, Tru-Cut offers a ‘Build A Blade’ section where they can input sawing machine type, material specs and current saw blade information. The company will then recommend the best

saw blade for that machine and material to be cut. Tru-Cut can also visit customers’ plants to inspect their current sawing operations and recommend productivity and cost saving improvements. Tru-Cut Saw has two in-house PVD coating chambers, with a capacity to coat parts up to 1,200mm in diameter. This allows Tru-Cut to tightly control coating quality and uniformity, and permits adjustments for individual customer applications. Through its ICO surface coating division, the company offers PVD coating services for cutting tool and other saw blade manufacturers and distributors.
