Drawn over mandrel steel tubes and chrome bars PTC Alliance Corporation is a $600mn global leader in the manufacture of drawn over mandrel steel tubes and chrome bars used by the fluid power and automobile industries. The company along with its subsidiary Wiederholt, in Germany, is the largest manufacturer of drawn over mandrel steel tubes in the world. The companies’ products find application as cylinder and piston rod parts in hydraulic cylinders fitted in equipment for construction, material handling and excavation and as axles, steering, drive shafts, shock absorbers, and stabiliser bars, among others in automobiles. The company has been a pioneer in innovating new products, like lighter weight tubes with higher strengths, tubes with closer tolerances to improve performance and

reduce costs, and bars with improved life cycles while adopting green technologies. These innovations have improved the value/cost quotient for customers. In 2008, the company operated from 11 locations in North America and Europe. Employing over 1,500 people the company has been the front runner in the industry in adopting Six Sigma practices and lean manufacturing techniques to maintain its leadership. It enjoys market leadership position in the fluid power segment in North America and the automotive segment in North America and Europe. With a history spanning eight decades in North America, the company is keen to expand its business to span the globe. Founded in 2004, the subsidiary company PTC Alliance (UK) Limited provides critical support to customers in the European region. The new company PTC Alliance Precision Products (Asia) Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the parent American company, incorporated recently in Chennai, India, intends to extend the scope of the operations to cover the Asian region. The new company would promote marketing and distribution of products in the Asian region while actively pursuing opportunities to outsource products and services fromAsia to Europe and Northern America.

Asian countries have embarked on massive programmes for development of infrastructure. The demands for quick completion of projects within competitive cost estimates will be critical to the development programmes. With the company’s products finding applications in equipments for infrastructure development, a substantial growth in demand for its products is envisaged. This would provide a stimulus to the expansion of the marketing network, while preparing ground for investments in productive capacity. PTC Alliance Precision Products (Asia) Pvt Ltd held its inauguration at Sheraton Park Hotel and Towers, Chennai, India on 24 July 2009 in the presence of Mr Andrew T Simkin, consul general, American consulate general, Chennai. The company shared its plans for providing support to global organisations that are already investing in the region. Mr Simkin drew upon comparisons seen in China in development for infrastructure and foresaw significant opportunities for avenues in this sector in India as well.
