The transducers and couplant are spun at relatively high speeds around the test bar or tube, allowing substantially higher throughput speeds than traditional ‘spin the tube’ type systems. The new MultiMac™ eddy current tester operates with encircling, sector, or rotary test sensors. Customers can now use just one tester to detect both short and long surface defects in their product. The instrument includes up to eight test channels and a wide selection of test parameters and special circuits to enhance signal-to-noise. A multi-screen provides simultaneous display of one to eight channels in polar and linear mode. Each channel can be individually configured with different frequencies and different channel modes – differential, for example, to detect short weld-line defects, and absolute for detecting long, continuous surface flaws and open welds.
