A utomated S ystems for H andling, B undling & P ackaging

Major benefits include the ability to reduce aisle-widths within storage areas and improve health and safety procedures. The need for risky high level handling loads above machinery or personnel is eradicated as long loads can rest on the platform of the truck whilst it travels in sideways mode. A newly developed model from Combilift is the GT stand-on forklift, which is particularly

suited to handling tubular product. This is capable of working in even narrower aisles than a conventional Combilift as it features a stand-on rather than a ride-in cab. In common the entire Combilift range, the forklift is designed for flexible indoor and outdoor operation, and is available with 3- 4.5t lift capacities. A key option on the 4-wheel steer electric GT is an optical guiding system, which eliminates the need to install mechanical guide rails for operation within the very narrow aisles. Optical cameras

Leading steel stockholder, G H Cook, have recently purchased two LP gas powered 4t capacity Combilifts to replace overhead cranes at its warehouse. The trucks offload incoming deliveries of 6m long steel bars, handle them throughout all stages of production, and reload for customer distribution. Storage aisles are fitted with guide rails which speed up picking whilst protecting the very valuable product. Further afield, the first Combilift to be delivered to Oman is now working at the National Aluminium Products Company (NAPCO), one of the Middle East’s leading aluminium extrusion companies. All Combilifts work inside and out, while trucks are designed for use on semi-rough terrain and in all weather conditions. In this case, with ambient summer temperatures of 48°C, the Combilift’s ability to perform well in the heat is a major benefit.

fi Ideal for operation in all weather, NAPCO (Oman) have taken delivery of a Combilift

mounted on the truck monitor a tape bonded in the centre of the aisle floor to enable automatic steering. A major benefit of the self-steer system is the ease of operation for the driver, allowing the operator to concentrate on other functions.
