Interview – Azak Tool Technologies Inc

Could you tell us about your company? Azak Tool Technologies is a company that was established at the beginning of 2018 with the experience and knowledge of Ağır Haddecilik Inc, as a result of observing current market requirements. Our company has based its activities on being an expert in cutting tools with the aim of selling products in markets all over the world. After two years of preliminary research we have started the manufacture of HSS circular saw blades and we are already making good progress on the aim of entering a number of markets around the globe. Today, it is our honour to be the first Turkish company that manufactures HSS saw blades. Our production facility is established on an area of 45,000m 2 at the Dilovasi Industry Zone, located 70km from Istanbul, Turkey. Currently we employ a total of 50 staff, of which eight are ‘white collars’. All our staff are very well educated and hold masters or PhD degrees in their fields. Our production facility is furnished with machines and equipment of the latest technology, including heat treatment and tempering furnaces, various grinders, toothing, coating and a fully equipped laboratory. What are the activities of your company? Would you give us information about the products and services you offer to your customers? Our primary goal is the production of HSS circular saw blades. Many companies produce circular saw blades and

they purchase raw materials as a semi-finished product and then complete the operation by adding the specific teeth and coating at their own facilities. Our aim is to be able to carry out all of these processes in our own integrated manufacturing facility and then sell around the world. In the future we intend to continue to invest in even more additional advanced cutting tools applications. High-speed steel (HSS) is defined as tool material with high- speed cutting capability. Themost important featureof this steel is that it protects the blade from wear at high temperatures. The operating temperature ranges from approximately 400 to 600°C. These steels have good resistance to high temperatures as well as hardness, and abrasion and impact resistance. High-speed tool steels contain certain elements such as chromium, vanadium, molybdenum, tungsten and cobalt in various combinations as alloying elements. As with all other tool steels, heat treatment and design must be applied correctly in order to achieve the expected properties in high-speed tool steels. As a result of the two years of research we have recently completed we have knowledge of high-quality raw materials and heat treatment processes and subsequent processing looms where we can process this raw material. In addition, before and after the heat treatment process, the placement and transportation processes will be carried out completely automatically. Production will match the highest European standards. One of the main factors directly affecting product performance is the coating. We are working with universities to ensure that users can achieve superior performance with our coating. At this point we have already started work on this and can offer special coatings to users.
