www.marcegaglia.com

Welcome to the latest Tube Products INTERNATIONAL magazine. This issue we have a feature on fittings, valves, flanges & connectors (see page 48). The technical article (page 56) discusses the selection of optimal material for hydraulic and instrumentation systems in marine environments and is written by Jonas Höwing from Sandvik Materials Technology. This is also a busy show issue and is being distributed at both Made in Steel and Lamiera in Italy, which are being held later in the month in Milan. The magazine will also be distributed at the Guangzhou International Metallurgy Exhibition in China in June. I will be attending both Made in Steel and Lamiera once again this year and they are both important global events in a very cosmopolitan city. Italy is one of the largest steel exporting companies internationally, exporting to more than 160 countries and territories. Exports have actually grown by more than 60 per cent since 2009 and again increased in 2018 compared to the previous year. So steel exports are a major part of the Italian economy and increasingly so. Marcegaglia – one of the biggest steel tube companies in the world and featured on our May issue cover – runs the world’s largest stainless steel tube manufacturing unit in Northern Italy, which hosts 33 tube mills, mainly used in the automotive sector, but also for water and gas pipes and pressure equipment. The company also has additional steel tube plants near Parma in Italy as well as in Brazil and more recently in China. Next up we have the July issue. It will have features on copper & aluminium tubes, corrosion repair & replacement, tube handling & logistics, and drilling, piercing & punching. If you would like to submit editorial for the July issue the deadline is 6 May. You can contact me at: rory@intras.co.uk for further information. I would also like to offer a warm welcome to our new sales manager, Steven Martin. If you would like

Oil and natural gas pipe demand to grow Demand for oil and natural gas pipe is forecast to grow 11 per cent annually to $15.4bn in 2022 – a strong recovery from severe declines seen during the 2012-2017 period, according to ‘Pipe: Products & Markets’, a new study from The Freedonia Group, USA. the 2012-2017 period, weak domestic demand for oil and gas pipe and a surge of steel pipe imports – particularly of OCTG – held prices down. through to 2022 and is forecast to post the fastest growth of any market due to an expected rebound in drilling activity.

Increased building construction activity will support demand in a variety of markets, including water distribution, conduit and DWV pipe. The potable water and storm and sanitary sewer markets are expected to offer the best growth opportunities for plastic pipe, as plastic pipe costs less, is easier to install, and is more resistant to corrosion than metal types. The Freedonia Group – USA

Going forward, producers will likely raise prices for oil and gas pipe due to increased drilling activity and an expected reduction in import competition brought on by the Trump administration’s 25 per cent tariff on steel and recent anti-dumping measures. Demand for pipe overall is forecast to advance 6.6 per cent annually to $51.1bn in 2022, rebounding strongly from declines posted during the 2012- 2017 period. The oil and gas market will remain the largest outlet for pipe

Growth will be driven by an expected increase in drilling activity as oil prices continue to recover from 2016 lows. Increased well completion in key fields like the Permian Basin is supporting gains for OCTG, while bottlenecks in such productive areas are encouraging pipeline construction. Growth will also be supported by a modest recovery in pricing. During

Cured-in-place pipe market likely to reach $2.6bn in 2023

of the global CIPP market during the forecast period. Small diameter pipes require less funding and are easy to install compared to large diameter pipes. This has resulted in a huge installed base of small diameter pipes. Based on the resin type, polyester resin- based CIPP is expected to remain the largest segment of the market during the forecast period. Polyester resin impregnates liner materials well and can be cured even when ambient temperatures drop to near or below freezing. However, vinyl ester resin-based CIPP is likely to witness the highest growth over the next five years, owing to its caustic and high-temperature material resistance properties. It offers better impact resistance and is stronger than the polyester resin-based CIPP construction. In terms of fabric type, polyester fabric- based CIPP is projected to remain the largest segment during the forecast period. Polyester fabric exceeds the desired tensile strength and meets the ASTM D461 standard. Glass fabric is likely to remain the second largest but fastest-growing fabric type, and is the preferred choice for CIPP where curing is performed by UV. North America is expected to remain the largest CIPP market during the forecast period, as the region has most of the pipelines installed post-World War II that are at retirement age and need rehabilitation. Asia-Pacific is likely to remain the fastest- growing market. Various emerging countries in the region, such as China, have been practicing other technologies for the rehabilitation of pipelines but have now started implementing CIPP at a faster rate.

According to Stratview Research, the global cured-in-place pipe market offers growth opportunities and is likely to reach US$2,615.4mn in 2023. Major growth drivers of the global CIPP market include ageing potable and sewage water structure, increasing spending by municipalities and utilities on rehabilitation, increasing awareness of the benefits of trenchless techniques, and the performance of CIPP over competing technologies. The report divides the cured-in-place pipe market into seven segments: by pipe diameter type, resin type, fabric type, cure type, weaving type, coating type and region. Diameters of under one foot are projected to remain the growth engine

Stratview Research has launched a new research report on the cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) market. The 336-page market report studies the global CIPP market over the trend period 2012 to 2017, and a forecast period of 2018 to 2023. The report provides detailed insights on the market dynamics to enable informed business decision-making and growth strategy formulation based on the opportunities present in the market. The CIPP trenchless technique for the rehabilitation of damaged pipelines is gaining popularity. It is suitable for the rehabilitation of pipelines within a wide diameter range, as well as applications including sewer, potable water and storm water.

New compact welding head from Polysoude The MW range of closed welding heads from Polysoude is designed for high-productivity applications without filler wire, combining a compact and ergonomic design with high duty cycle. In response to the needs of the food and pharmaceutical industry, chemical production lines and other applications where ultra-compact welding heads are required, Polysoude has developed the MW 34 with reduced size and new technological improvements. mounted in the clamps, ensuring that the two parts to be assembled are held on both sides of the weld joint. The 1T version allows clamping with a single set of inserts, but the gas shielding around the weld joint is provided by protection flanges. This version is useful for places where restricted space may hinder welding operations. Its range of use from 6 to 34mm makes the tool suited not only to the pharmaceutical, food and traditional chemical industries, but also to aeronautics, biochemistry and microelectronics. 1500, which have a lifetime guarantee. These clamp inserts adapt to tube dimension tolerance variations while ensuring non-contamination. The standards and regulations governing the food and beverage sector subject manufacturers to increasingly exacting quality demands. For this reason, Polysoude has devoted several years to developing orbital welding solutions using the TIG process, which allows the company to fully comply with EHEDG recommendations and US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards. The MW 34 is available in two versions. Version 2T has two sets of inserts, each
