McElroy launches the In-Ditch 1600 solution Manufacturer McElroy has launched a new solution for fusing large-diameter pipes up to 65" OD in challenging, close-quarter working environments. traditional electrofusion fittings in that diameter.”

Multiple lifting points, a carriage spreader bar and skidded carriage provide ease of mobility and fit within a small envelope. A roll cage helps protect the carriage and hydraulics as they are lowered into the ditch.  The carriage of the In-Ditch 1600 has the same 30,000 pounds of clamping force per jaw as the MegaMc ® 1600, the

The In-Ditch 1600 is designed with a compact, 2-jaw carriage and a top- loading heater and facer for added flexibility. It is capable of fusing onto as little as 15" of exposed pipe with minimal excavation required.

The In-Ditch 1600 has been created in direct response to a customer who needed a machine capable of butt fus- ing large-diameter tie-in connections in

a high-density neighbour- hood with many turning roadways. “The beauty of this is the collaboration and creativity to come up with a solution,” said Brett Stone, sales channel manager at McElroy. “The In-Ditch 1600 now gives all contractors the option of butt fusing fittings, flanges and tie ins for a whole lot less than

Timeless Tube: shaped tubing improves strength, aesthetics and ergonomics

architecture to automotive, and includes yacht builders Sunseeker and Princess, as well as the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which uses oval-shaped handrail on its unique Sky Walk. “Tube Düsseldorf provides us with a great opportunity to meet new and existing clients, and to also connect with metal merchants and suppliers. Metal merchants regularly ‘free issue’ us with their existing round tubing, which we then shape. It means that they can effectively expand their product range with very little investment. We only charge a fee for the tube shaping”, says McMillan. Timeless Tube is continually investing in product development, such as new finishes that can be applied to their metal tubing. They are currently working on a seventh tube profile, which they plan to bring to market later this year. Timeless Tube www.timelesstube.com

UK-based engineers Timeless Tube believes that its range of shaped metal tubing can offer product designers and architects enhanced aesthetics, structural integrity and ergonomics. “Traditional round metal tubing obviously has its uses. However, we passionately believe that so many applications could be improved by replacing standard round tube with one of our distinctive shaped profiles,” said managing director Tom McMillan. “Our tubing doesn’t just look more attractive. It has proven structural advantages too. Our tube deflection tests show that when put under pressure, shaped tubes bend less than round tubes – our flat-sided oval tubing was an impressive 54 per cent stronger.” Timeless Tube began to form oval tubing from stainless steel more than 30 years ago. It can now form six shapes from a variety of metals and with several finishes – and it boasts over 300 existing sizes.

Mr McMillan continues: “Our clients sometimes require us to customise sizes for prototypes or niche jobs – this demands great skill and creativity. That’s why we have clients from as far as Ohio and Tokyo. We offer a very specialist service.” Timeless Tube’s prestigious client list spans several industries, from
