Transforming Persoz and König pendulum hardness testing of coatings

The new Elcometer 3045 pendulum hardness tester is designed to make the measuring of coating hardness more accurate, repeatable and reproducible. Using infrared technology, the Elcometer 3045 provides a fully automated Persoz or König pendulum hardness test with no human intervention. The operator simply fits the pendulum onto the loading pins, loads the sample and closes the door.

The rigid perspex door allows easy access for sample positioning. If opened during a test, a warning signal alerts the user and the test stops. The test will not begin again until the instrument is reset. Batch memory stores all test data for output to PC via ElcoMaster ® data management software. The Elcometer 3045 pendulum hardness tester can be used in accordance with ASTM D 4366, BS 3900 E5, DIN 53157, ISO 1522 and NF T30-016.

The pendulum automatically moves to the start position, the sample table rises and the test begins. The system performs a full calibration routine and automatically adjusts the unit to meet the specified standard, for confidence in the test results. With an integrated bubble level on the specimen table, users can quickly identify whether or not the specimen table is correctly aligned and, if required, adjust the rotating feet at the base of the unit. Sturdy, dustproof and robust design ensures a stable environment for tests, ensuring repeatable and consistent results. Ian Moore, business development manager at Phoenix ISL, added, “We are very pleased to further cement our long- term relationship with Sonatest. Having a veo+ permanently at our disposal allows us the flexibility to perform product demonstrations anytime at our UK head office or on-site at worldwide exhibitions to illustrate the synergy between the veo+ flaw detector and Phoenix scanners.” The veo+ retains the best features of the established veo line, and paired with the dynamic Phoenix scanners forms a powerful combination that offers a range of solutions for technicians across industries such as

Sonatest has announced an initiative with Phoenix Inspection Systems, which has taken delivery of a veo+ phased array flaw detector. Phoenix will be able to demonstrate the compatibility of its dynamic range of ultrasonic scanners interfacing fluently with the veo+ to produce high resolution volumetric scans and record precise data sets. Commenting on the announcement, Sonatest regional sales manager Matthew Davison said, “Connecting the Sonatest veo+ with the impressive Phoenix product range will show what great results can be achieved by two forward-thinking, solution-focused companies.”
