EWM opens new sales and technology site in Wittstock, Germany
EWM AG is based in Germany and supplies arc welding technology. Due to customer demand it has opened a new site in Wittstock, Brandenburg. This means that EWM is able to meet the demand for welding equipment in north-east Germany. In the sales and technology centre, a one-of-a- kind in Germany, the family business provides a comprehensive range of welding technology as well as extensive consulting services to do with welding. As a technology partner for customers, EWM wants to develop innovative welding processes and individual solutions for all welding production processes in a large area of application technology. Furthermore, the company is planning regular trade events and demonstrations of modern and future- thinking welding processes at the new site. “We want to be the greatest specialist welding shop in East Germany,” said Toralf Pekrul, manager of the EWM site in Wittstock. At present the business already has a site in Brandenburg in the town of Rathenow. With the opening of the large sales and technology centre, with

a size of more than 2,000m 2 in Wittstock, the welding technology manufacturer continues its expansion. The complete solution provider of arc welding technology currently has 14 sites in Germany, ensuring useful proximity to customers and quick response times. Alongside an optimal transport network and 1,150m 2 of storage space, the new premises in Wittstock provide lots of space for state-of-the-art technology. Application technology therefore plays a central role. In addition to the latest EWM welding machines, there are welding robots and automation components for practical applications available. EWM develops individual solutions with customers to optimise even complex welding manufacturing processes and systems. This means that the company
performs extensive welding tests and metallurgical testing. Furthermore, the welding manufacturer has set up a large area for service and repair. EWM also placed great importance on designing the new building to be highly energy efficient as well as furnishing work spaces ergonomically. “In Wittstock, there will soon be training sessions, demonstrations and robotised welding days. EWM is initially starting with a team of 14 at the new site, with a medium-term plan to expand the number of workers up to 40. With our state-of-the-art premises we have built the perfect foundations for further growth. This way, we can assist our customers quickly and competently with all their welding needs,” said Mr Pekrul. EWM AG www.ewm-group.com Based on more than 30 years of experience and with Hamon D’Hondt already having several TU2 machines, COFIM responded with a modified version of the TU2 model. The result was a TU2 ALR, which operates in a similar way to the standard machine, but is equipped with a clamping system and a special tool holder. With this solution being quicker to implement, it also has the advantage of having greater machine rigidity, thanks to a design which maximises the diameter to ensure accuracy and repeatability of machining. Welding tubes for complex water projects Hamon D’Hondt is a company that manufactures finned tubes for cooling towers, welded tubes of all types such as spiral fins, parallel fins (carbon steel, alloy steels, cast iron sleeves), cooling towers, air condensers, energy savers, air and fume heaters and sets of finned tubes. It is also a specialist in the manufacture and distribution of cooling systems, process heat exchangers, air quality systems, chimneys, heat recovery steam generators and waste heat boilers. This colossal project, awarded to Saudi Aramco, is an entirely new development to be built 30km west of Jubail in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia. What makes producing this type of cooling tower complex is welding the tubes in the rear plate, where access is restricted. The quality of the welding must be beyond reproach and consistent on all tubes because re-doing it in the event of a defect is practically impossible. Under the circumstances, only TIG welding offers the right quality. Although the choice of welding equipment is important, preparing the joints for welding is equally vital. The company has been asked to produce cooling tower systems destined for a gas-fired power plant at Fadhili.
