Super Padder for large-diameter pipeline jobs CRC-Evans Pipeline Equipment has launched its most advanced, highest volume padding machine. Built to handle pipeline diameters of 36" and greater, the Super Padder has been engineered to increase productivity, efficiency and safety on the job. Screening huge piles of dirt for ditch padding requires heavy- duty equipment combined with ease of operation. The Super Padder is self- loading and self-propelled, allowing operation with less equipment and manpower. A single operator controls the machine by a wireless remote that manages speed, direction and all other functions from a safe distance with maximum visibility. Designed by Laurini, the Super Padder is ultra-stable and can work uphill or downhill. The machine is track-mounted to handle the largest jobs in the toughest terrains, with a high-frequency vibrating screen that outputs large volumes of fines from either side and from varying distances. Screened rocks and debris are discharged outside of the track path, either into the ditch or away from it.

Universal solution for major pipeline installation

The versatility and unique qualities of ductile iron pipe from Saint- Gobain PAM UK have earned it a key role in a major water pipeline installation in northeast England. The replacement of the 16km Tyneside North Circular Main between Horsley and Gosforth was a major project for Northumbrian Water, undertaken by Carillion. While much of the work was fairly straightforward and used standard 900mm Saint-Gobain ductile iron water pipe, four sections – notably those underneath major roads such as the A1 and A696 – required a different approach. For these sections, tunnelling underneath the road would have meant major delay and disruption to traffic, and so a solution based on trenchless technology was needed. pushed together to create a secure seal with strong pipe to pipe anchorage. The product can withstand high pulling forces with up to 1.5° deflection, as well as pressures of up to 25 bar – well above the legal requirement for this type of product. The new pipeline also passed through the grounds of Newcastle Airport, and to avoid disruption here an oversized tunnel was created, through which the Saint-Gobain pipes were pulled on ‘spiders’ by a mobile excavator to facilitate rapid installation.
