Push-pull standard for M12 connectors Eight manufacturers have come together to establish a standard for the push-pull locking mechanism of M12 connectors. Together, the eight companies – Phoenix Contact, Harting, Molex, Murrelektronik, Binder, Conec, Escha and Weidmüller – are pursuing the goal of ensuring compatibility across manufacturers.

This joint approach resulted in the IEC 61076-2-010 standard, which describes both external and internal locking by utilising push-pull locking. The vote on the committee draft was approved with 92.9 per cent in favour, indicating that a final form of the standard can be expected in December. The standard is expected to enhance automation technology by saving installation time and costs, as well as allowing the creation of a safe, robust and widely available locking system. The Harting Technology Group is a provider of industrial connection tech- nology for data, signal and power, and operates 14 production plants and 44 sales companies.

Custom-made dies for complex profiles PWM (Pressure Welding Machines), a manufacturer of cold welding machines and dies for over 35 years, specialises in custom-made dies for specific applications. Dies can be made for round wire or profile, including trapezoidal and Z wire profiles used in the build-up of sub- sea cables. ▲ ▲ Custom-made PWM die for trapezoidal profile

tolerances, and rigorously tested for quality and accuracy to ensure strong, reliable welds.” In addition to custom-made dies, PWM manufactures industry standard dies for wire sizes between 0.08 and 6.35mm (0.0039" to 0.257"). The company can also produce dies to weld two different sizes of material, enabling manufacturers to join different wire sizes together quickly when changing spools. “These types of complex profile are almost impossible to weld on a resistance butt welder,” said Steve Mepsted, PWM’s managing director. “We have made specialist dies for trapezoidal profile for many years and now produce them for

sizes across the range of our manual M101 and air/hydraulic HP100 and HP200 cold welding machines up to 33mm 2 , and up to 170mm 2 on our EP500 electro/pneumatic rod welder. Our dies are precision engineered in-house, to extremely fine
