Lower power consumption on continuous use of VNT PCD dies

AJEX & Turner has introduced VNT PCD dies for stranding, compacting and bunching for copper and aluminium and for low-carbon welding wire drawing to save power consumption and metal, avoid heat generation on the die and conductor and to maintain the bright surface. The VNT PCD dies have been successful for a number of years in controlling the CR value (compacting ratio), and ensuring a two to three per cent metal saving. There is also no dust creation. The company has developed a range of dies from 0.7 to 100mm for electrodes, CO 2 welding and stainless steel wires, etc, which it claims can improve production, reduce the manufacturing cost and save power. The dies are made with multi-layer coatings of nanocrystalline diamond through vapour deposition on the hardest base metal, which provides a smooth surface with low friction. Nanocrystalline diamond has been used extensively to improve the properties of surfaces for manufacturing processes, due to favourable material properties such as hardness, improved wear resistance, thermal conductivity, chemical inertness and low coefficient of friction. Some benefits include: • The size and polish remains the same throughout the life of the die

• No need for re-polishing and resizing • The surface finish of the wire is bright (almost like a mirror polish), which improves conductor quality • More metal saving: up to two to three per cent • No dust accumulation in the die and resist-free from breakage and scratches on the conductor and wire • No heat generation on the die and conductor Ajex & Turner Wire Die Technologies – India Website : www.ajexturner.com

Defence fibre cables W L Gore & Associates Inc has launched new fibre optic cables, 1.8mm Simplex, with high impact resistance for extreme defence aircraft environments. This version exceeds the stringent new JN1177 and EN4641-301 industry standards for greater durability while maintaining high bandwidth data and video transmission on 10Gb avionics networks.
