can be extremely aggressive. Adding the all-round rough handling associated with moving coils through a plant, tracking coils consistently through a mill can be challenging. Typical identification methods have shortcomings. Common industrial tags cannot survive the extended heat of annealing and/or aggressive acid concentrations. Tags often need to be removed from a coil during certain stages of production and then reattached or exchanged for a new tag. This creates the risk of coil misidentification and loss of product data. Other manual marking methods do not allow for automated data capture throughout the manufacturing process. Manual reading and data entry is liable to produce errors.

system; to control these parts; and to store the finished parts in stock. An MES system was linked to the cell to transform data into actionable insights that raise productivity and sustainability.

The company’s research and develop ment department explores new products and concepts to improve the perfor mance and efficiency of its customers, while keeping a focus on environmental sustainability, labour status and final cost. With this aim, Pan Chemicals has added products to its portfolio, such as ash less lubricants for high quality surface after annealing; polymer-based pre coating for cold forming applications; polymer pre-coat lubricants for heavy duty bar drawing; nanotechnology based protective coating for galvanised wires; and pre-coating for high-tensile galvanised steel wire drawing. Other products include special nano dispersion water-based lubricants for fine and extra-fine drawing of high tensile wires; drawing technologies based on special diamond dies; and high performing compact pressure dies. The production programme also includes: • Panlube Sdrydrawing lubricants: a full range of calcium, sodium, aluminium, zinc, lithium and combined products for low- and high-carbon steel and stainless steel Panlube L wet drawing lubricants: a complete range of oils, greases and pastes for wet drawing of low- and high-carbon, welding wire, stainless steel and non-ferrous wire Pancover lubricant carriers: phos- phates and non-reactive coatings Panflux flux for galvanising: devel- oped to improve the efficiency of the galvanising process by a uniform control of the reaction between the two metals, reducing operation costs and improving the quality of the zinc coating Panchem auxiliary products: de- greasing agents, pickling inhibitors, anti-rusting and protective products, activated charcoal, wiping pads and spiral brushes • • • •

Numalliance’s FTX CNC bending equipment

Most of Numalliance’s standard machines can now also be integrated into cells with robots/cobots, and connected to an MES. The aim is to provide more efficient and practical machines, including wireless accessories and performing software. Another of the company’s goals is to meet the needs of e-mobility and its requirements for new components such as busbars and hairpins for power transmission between the battery and electric motors. It has developed and modified its existing range of machines to offer flexible and efficient tools to bend copper or aluminium. Numalliance www.numalliance.com Pan Chemicals SpA 09 B05 Pan Chemicals is an Italian company producing high-tech drawing lubricants, coatings and chemicals for the wire industry. It is present worldwide, selling directly or through its network of agents, distributors and branch companies: Pan Chemicals Bosphorus in Turkey, and Pan Chemicals Americas in Mexico.

Pannier 2D code tags on wire

The Pannier metal tracking tag remains with a coil throughout the production journey, and can even serve as the shipping label, eliminating the need to re-label the coil. Its embossed 2D data matrix code can be scanned at any stage of production for error-free product tracking. The all-metal tags resist heat, acid, weather and handling, and are 100 per cent recyclable. The tags are made using the Pannier EmbossMax 5000 automatic metal tag embosser, which can be used like a network printer, integrating with any plant MES/ERP system. Tags can also be made individually by an operator, as required. Once data is received, tags are embossed with text and a scannable 2D code. Codes can be read with industrial scanners or mobile devices for instant production information throughout the wire manufacturing process. Pannier Corporation www.pannier.com

Pannier Corporation has introduced new metal tracking tags for wire manufacturers, bringing product traceability to harsh manufacturing processes. Wire and wire rod coil processing is a demanding job: processes are not necessarily linear, depending on wire grades and end uses; temperatures can be very high, especially when annealing special steel alloys; and pickling baths
