Overseas orders boost for AlloyWire A SUSTAINED campaign focused on increasing export work is reaping dividends for a specialist UK manufacturer.
Alloy Wire International (AWI), which supplies more than 60 different ‘high performance alloys’, saw overseas sales grow by 10 per cent in 2017 and now sends its products to 55 different countries around the world. Norway has seen the largest increase, followed by Hong Kong and Taiwan, with Italy, Belgium and Mexico all represented in the firm’s top ten hotspots of client locations. The export boom means 52 per cent of the company’s £8.5m turnover is now outside the UK and this could increase further with the appointment of three new agents in Brazil, Indonesia and South Africa. “We have always been an international business and we wanted to step this up in 2017 by doing everything we can to support our network of 45 agents,” explained Mark Venables, managing director of AWI. “This has included more significant investment in attending overseas exhibitions at Interpack in Germany, Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, SMI Metal Engineering Expo in Connecticut and the Shanghai International Advanced Materials event.”

the month, with more than 60 currently available to choose from. Operating from two sites in the UK, the firm stocks in excess of 180 tonnes of material, which allows it to offer lead times of three weeks from the order being placed. It has also recently invested in an additional 4,000ft 2 of production space and launched its own ‘Wire Finder’ app as part of a marketing drive to help customers find the right wire for their applications.
we have also spent a lot of time translating our websites, making sure they are easier to read when international customers are looking for a potential supplier. “It is an approach that is working, with visitors to the translated sites growing exponentially. If you are going to be successful overseas, you need to invest time and money so that the local sales office has the right support.” Alloy Wire International makes round, flat, shaped and electrical resistance wire in a range of material that is growing by

In March 2017, International Steels Ltd placed an order with Ebner to increase the throughput capacity of its existing HICON/ H 2 bell annealer facility. The order comprises the supply of eight HICON/H 2 workbases, three heating bells and five cooling bells, plus the now necessary pressure-reducing station for hydrogen and nitrogen. The furnace facility accommodates low carbon steel strip coils with an outside diameter of up to 2,000mm and a stack height of 5,300mm. This expansion phase brings the number of available HICON/H 2 workbases to 20, each with a maximum net charge weight of 113 tonnes. International Steels Ltd has been relying on Ebner’s HICON/ H 2 annealing technology since 2008. The design of the metallically encapsulated workload space together with the quality and reliability of the facilities and customer service were key in the decision to invest in Ebner HICON/H 2 technology again.
