Hannay Reels’ new lightweight line of fibre optic reels

HANNAY Reels recently introduced a new package of specialised fibre optic reels to address the unique needs of the communications industry. The reel packages are designed specifically for use with tactical and hybrid fibre optic cable types, including Broadcast SMPTE, TAC and/or opticalCON. A lightweight metal construction includes external and/or internal drum storage with a protective grommet for easy access to cable, while also providing protection from dirt and debris. Featuring a non-reflective black matte finish to resist harsh outdoor elements, the new Series AVF-14 and AVF-18 are well-suited for live events, mobile broadcast units, mining operations, and military communication. Series AVF-14: A lightweight aluminium reel under 10lb designed for easy transport and handling. Featuring a modular frame style, the handle and leg can be easily replaced in the event of damage. Reel capacity ranges from 350 feet of SMPTE cable and up to 3,500 feet of fibre optic cable. Series AVF-18: A durable aluminium/steel reel weighing less than 25lb. Featuring a unique frame style, the reel allows multiple reels to be stacked on top of it for space saving. A strong 4" optional caster enables easy transport with large capacities of camera cable. Reel capacity ranges from 1,000 feet of SMPTE cable and up to 9,250 feet of fibre optic cable. Ensuring quality in measurement

There is direct/indirect impact on product quality with tension variation beyond certain limits in processes like extrusion, stranding, bunching, twisting, rewinding, coiling, weaving, coating, inspection, drawing, enamelling or similar. These processes have a direct impact on the quality of the product, as well as machine performance. This results in the end product quality being compromised in spite of the willingness to give the best quality product by the industry. With the help of 25 years’ experience, Puretronics is able to introduce a tension measurement system, which is useful in various applications. In continuous production processes, the quality of the finished products is directly dependent on the accurate measurement and control of the material tension, thus improving finished product quality, reducing waste, increasing processing speeds and maximising efficiency and low downtime. Unavoidable fines (abrasive particles) generate the most destructive lubricant contaminants in wire drawing. This is no longer an alarming phenomenon since the introduction of the Decalub green and dry rod preparation and wire lubrication including PDH coating system. In the most demanding wire drawing applications, the PDH die’s wear is reduced to a unmeasurable level (about 0.2 micron per tonne), meaning that three-body abrasive wear is virtually eliminated. Generation of abrasive particles (fines), the most destructive lubricant contaminant, is continuously liberated from the wire surface during drawing and PDH captured, encapsulated and transported with drawn wire from block to block out of the machine. The lubricant film created is of such a configuration as to induce a hydrodynamic lubricant activity causing migration of all lubricant contaminants without interference with the die, meaning the removal of encapsulated abrasive particles prevents die wear, enabling wire frictionless drawing at much higher speeds and lower temperatures.

Applications include all plain carbon wires up to one per cent carbon and stainless steel alloy wires up to 26 per cent chromium, coated or uncoated, where the PDH high-performance specific anti-friction coat is about 8 to 15 microns thick, adjustable, largely sufficient to retain liberated abrasive particles from the wire surface.
