Making colour detection easy In an automotive wire production line, just one or two granules of a different colour can cause the contamination of approximately 200m of insulation cable, because of the difficulty of manually detecting the colour variation at a speed of 1,800m/min.

For this reason, Rosendahl has optimised a sensor system for colour detection. The SK-400-C can detect colour variations that the human eye cannot perceive. The system measures the main and stripe colours, as well as the stripe width, in accordance with previously set references. The main component is a PC-based evaluation unit with 360° camera surveillance. The unit consists of four cameras, covered by a protective housing. This enables monitoring of the colour quality over the entire scope, and allows the tested colour quality to be documented, eg in the spool protocol. The immediate assurance of colour reliability eliminates colour complaints and faulty production. In addition, waste and scrap rates are reduced at start-up, during production and during colour changes. The system has undergone intensive testing on Rosendahl’s laboratory line in Pischelsdorf, Austria, as well as on automotive wire production lines at customers’ sites. The results revealed that

Contrôle (CMS) is a French company that has been designing and manufacturing non- destructive testing systems for nearly 35 years. Specialising in eddy current Mesure Systèmes

and ultrasound, the company integrates these two complementary methods in combined test benches. CMS has designed a rotating eddy current head – RotoETscan TRVC – dedicated to the control of wire and parts of small diameters ranging from Ø 0.8 to 10mm. The system, which can be easily integrated on a control line, includes a cassette adapted to the diameter of the product. Eddy current probes installed inside the cassette rotate at high speeds around the product, at up to 18,000 rpm.
