High-end lab extruders German company Siebe Engineering, part of the Kurre Group, is a specialist in the field of extrusion technology. The company’s laboratory extruder features an innovative plug-in screw that can be individually adapted to the material requirements in a few simple steps. Pitch of compression, pitch of barrier or mixing parts can be easily exchanged to create new screw designs and laboratory situations. The extruder is said to be of particular interest to those who are testing newpolymers. Siebe simulates the processing of materials to determine the theoretically best screw design, and then puts this into practice for verification on the laboratory line. and special materials such as fluorine or PEEK with high temperature applications up to 400°C. Dr Oleg Schmidt of Siebe Engineering explained that in addition to supporting customers in optimising existing extrusion processes on-site, the company can develop extrusion solutions for processing new material mixtures. The company can analyse the entire production process and develop optimised control concepts for production. Alternatively, if a customer wants to improve the dielectric properties of the insulation of data cables or generally reduce material costs, Siebe will help find an optimum foaming process. “For this purpose, we can use our own high-pressure gas dosing unit for N 2 and CO 2 in our pilot line for foaming tests with plastics,” said Dr Schmidt.
