production by 20 per cent. It supplies not only fire-retardant raw materials such as mica tape and fibreglass tape, but also full machinery lines for its application to the cable. During 2018 the company signed numerous contracts with cable manu- facturers in the Russian Federation, Belarus, Ukraine, Europe and Middle Eastern countries, offering commissioning, after-sales service and spare parts. Gurfil’s newly installed spooling line has allowed it to significantly increase production capacity, meeting all necessary safety and quality requirements. It can also offer spool wound high quality materials to customers, such as alu/PET, CU/PET, alu/copoly laminates, polyester (mylar) tape, mica tape, fibreglass tape, kraft paper, crepe paper, PP identification tape, etc. Beside traverse spool-wound products it offers step-by-step winding. A step wound reel is a reel which is a combination of a pad (pancake) and a spool. The principle is to wind

Gurfil is a well-known manufacturer of raw materials and machinery for the wire and cable industry. Established in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1981, the company now serves customers worldwide with its foil, film and tape products, and machinery. All its machines are tested in-house and signed off with client approval prior to on-site commissioning. The engineering team also tests and commissions the machines at the customer site to ensure smooth integration into overall production. The maintenance plan also helps Gurfil carry out preventive maintenance on machines and production lines. It is reported that compared to year 2018, the fire resistant cable market will grow almost 15 per cent by 2023. Fire-resistant cables provide circuit integrity under extreme fire conditions and are used to ensure continuous operations in case of a fire. Following the international market trends by the end of 2018, Gurfil increased its

the material for a given number of revolutions and then traverse the material to the next position for winding again. The multiple pancakes then give support to each other. This minimises the possibility of the tape dropping off the edge of the spool during high speed payout. Looking ahead, new investments are scheduled for two more spooling lines which will allow Gurfil to expand into more markets while giving better service to existing customers.
