Davis-Standard has set a new benchmark for environmental sustainability in the plastics industry after becoming the first OEM in its field to achieve Operation Clean Sweep (OCS) certification. The certification demonstrates the company’s commitment to preventing plastic pellet (resin) loss and contributing to a cleaner environment. OCS is an international programme designed to help plastics industry companies implement good housekeeping and pellet containment practices. By achieving OCS certification, Davis-Standard, a designer and manufacturer of extrusion and converting technologies, joins a growing list of companies committed to reducing plastic pollution in waterways and communities. “Our facilities in Fulton, New York, and Pawcatuck, Connecticut, are blessed with natural beauty and proximity to vital waterways and the ocean,” said Giovanni Spitale, CEO of Davis-Standard. “This underscores our responsibility to protect these resources and is why Operation Clean Sweep certification is so important to us.” Davis-Standard’s North American facilities are also powered by carbon-free electricity, and its Maillefer division received a Silver EcoVadis rating for its sustainability efforts in Finland. And staying very much with a green theme, three additional Lubrizol Engineered Polymers sites have obtained the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) Plus certification. ISCC Plus is a standard for fully traceable sustainable supply chains that allows companies to track and attribute environmentally friendly raw materials along the entire value chain, without altering the production process. The three sites that have achieved this third-party qualification are the Lubrizol Advanced Materials headquarters in Brecksville, Ohio, USA, and the production plants in Avon Lake, Ohio, USA, and Oevel, Belgium. Full details on both these stories can be found on page 19.
