A focus on new equipment and packaging options

Products dispense without twists, kinks or tangles, and the dispensing without inertia or rotation is faster. The company claims that cable installations can be accomplished up to 30 per cent faster than when using spools and reels. Using a unique configuration of the figure-eight wind, Reelex coiling machines feature precise tension con-

Reelex Packaging Solutions, Inc will be attending the supplier exhibition at IWCS Cable & Connectivity Forum in Orlando, Florida, USA, in September with a focus on two new coiling machines and the latest packaging innovations. Exhibiting at booth 128, the company will display videos and other information to present two of the new coiling machines – the S320 and M340. Reelex coiling is an established method for packaging low voltage copper cables, and is now available as an alternative to spools and reel-in-a-box for many fibre optic cable designs. Having been used to package copper products for more than 40 years, Reelex packaging is a method of winding cables into a self-sustaining, interwoven figure-eight coil. With no internal structure, coils can be packaged in a variety of containers from simple boxes to plastic film. Less packaging material means less waste, and the materials used are typically 100 per cent recyclable.

machines can produce coils up to 101cm (40"). Products up to 13mm (0.5") in diameter are supported. Reelex will also exhibit physical examples of a variety of packaging available to low voltage and fibre optic cable manufacturers, including the new Reelex Air® package, which offers a slim profile, enhanced payout performance and an environmentally friendly waste profile. Reelex Packaging Solutions, Inc www.reelex.com Izory HD can be used to manufacture a variety of products for any application where wire quality is important and wear resistance is required. Refractron has designed Izory HD for wire guides on CV lines, rings on rod breakdowns, threaded eyelets on take-ups, pulleys in annealers, and capstans on multi-wires. The company’s manufacturing centre in Rochester, New York, USA, starts with in-house powder, and its forming and finishing capabilities allow it to make almost any precise shape that a process requires. To help provide just-in-time delivery for unplanned maintenance, the company keeps a large inventory of Izory HD drawing rings, eyelets, guides and rolls in stock for many standard machines, including those made by Niehoff, MFL, Samp, Syncro and Henrich. of engineering and design support and customer service, Refractron offers face-to-face meetings and on-site assessments to clarify goals and identify requirements and objectives. trol. This tension control lends itself well to fibre optic cables, as does the accommodation of cable characteristics such as bend radius requirements via several mandrel sizes. Reelex also offers precision accumulators and dancer designs for rapid response to changes in line tension, as well as fast-reaction payoffs. The latest versions of the coiling machines can produce coils up to 54cm in diameter (21"), while speciality

Improved ceramic properties The team at Refractron understands the critical role ceramics play in wire manufacturing and how to optimise performance. The company’s Izory®HD material has a pristine microstructure and properties for longevity and preserving wire quality. compared to traditional stabilised zirconias (MgPSZ) throughout the wire industry.

Izory HD offers the same fracture toughness – the property that quantifies the ability of a material to resist crack propagation and chipping, and is critical to the durability required for parts used in wire manufacturing. The material’s improved microstructure and properties allow it to resist dimensional changes. Its resilience can translate into longer maintenance cycles and better wire quality.

The company states that Izory HD will “reset expectations” for the performance of the draw rings, step cones, pulleys, eyelets and guides used to manufacture wire. It is claimed to be 15 per cent harder and 30 per cent stronger, and to offer a 40 per cent improvement in standardised abrasion testing when
