SteelAsia chooses Tenova for green technology Tenova, a developer and provider of sustainable solutions for the green transition of the metals industry, and SteelAsia Manufacturing Corporation have entered into a partnership for Consteel ® Evolution, a low-impact technology for steel manufacturing. It will be the first of its kind in the Philippines and will be employed in SteelAsia’s new melt shop in Lemery, Batangas, in 2024.

Rosendahl Nextrom GmbH With environmental regulations set to increase in the future, production compa nies will need to document their process es and carbon emissions accurately and present this information when required. Determining the exact CO 2 consumption of a production line can be simplified using Rosendahl’s latest smart solution. To ensure the seamless operation of the entire line, Tenova’s scope of work includes the EAF (electric arc furnace) Consteel Evolution, the secondary metallurgy station, the billet caster, the fume treatment plant (FTP) and the material handling systems, along with all engineering services for the civil works and the balance of plant. The Consteel Evolution melt shop will recycle local scrap metal to produce high-grade billets for steel sections. The Lemery facil ity will also be one of the cleanest steel plants in the world, gen erating low carbon emissions and providing Filipinos with steel sections produced with environmentally friendly technology. The Consteel Evolution technology saves energy, decarbonises steel production and reduces environmental impact through efficient energy recovery and pollution control innovations. Scrap metal is an important national resource used in steel production with low carbon emission, and SteelAsia aims to increase its output by maximising the use of scrap metal. SteelAsia operates six manufacturing plants across the Philippines, located in Bulacan, Batangas, Cebu, Davao and TBA

Misamis Oriental. It expects to open a seventh plant this year, located in Compostela, Cebu, and to increase its annual steel output from 2mn to 3mn metric tons. “Our company’s long-term vision is to develop the Philippine steel industry because this is the backbone of industrialisation,” said Benjamin O Yao, president and CEO of SteelAsia. “We have seen our neighbouring Asian countries grow faster because they can manufacture their steel. The Philippines needs to catch up. As we do so, we want our technology to be at par with global standards in efficiency and environmental sustainability. Thanks to our partnership with Tenova, we can increase our steel productivity to support nation-building while ensuring that we also take care of the environment.” Tenova SteelAsia Manufacturing Corp www.tenova.com www.steelasia.com

The ESG module can calculate a line’s carbon footprint

line measuring devices to continuously log the consumption data of electrical power, water, compressed air and all raw materials consumed during production, and converts this data into kilograms of CO 2 . Customers will have access to accurate figures depicting their carbon emissions in real-time, and will know how much CO 2 their production runs emit. Ready-to-use reports show the carbon emissions of a whole line set-up, or of single machines or

specific products, within a specified time frame.

The recently introduced ESG module (environment social governance) is the latest add-on for the Rio line control. It combines precise calculations and in
