Focus On Turkey Employment in the sector

central location where an active social life can be maintained? It has become more difficult for the younger generation to integrate with the difficult conditions in sectors like ours. For this reason, those who do not have analytical competence or cannot find a job in the mentioned places tend to come to our sector, which can lower standards. To counter this problem, we can be more transparent: we should show the benefits of our work – the parts that touch people. Friends who come out of university as chemical engineers cannot go beyond being laboratory or technical staff in a company if they do not have an academic career or great success. During this time, young people look for other breakthroughs, as they are more obsessed with the difficulties of the sector. People remain unaware of the oppor- tunities because career days or studies for the future cannot attract enough participation or the attention of students. Associations or organisations should cooperate on the needs of the private sector. Education is not just training and self- development: it is about blending the given information and putting it where you can use it. If we consider the positive aspects of the subject, people employed in existing companies have the opportunity to find employment in other companies, because they are familiar with the subject; they can quickly adapt to a new workplace. In this way, the employment demands of growing companies are met and it becomes easier to find the right personnel. Since our industry is located in a narrower area, its communication is more robust: company owners, personnel or other employees are aware of each other, and it is easier and more practical for individuals and institutions to express their opinions on issues. The downsides of this include the treat- ment of companies’ private information, such as product information, work orders, etc. While arrangements such as confi- dentiality agreements can control this to a large extent, there will be areas where they are not sufficient. Another difficult aspect is the heavy work conditions. No matter how many regulations are introduced, and how much production conditions improve compared to the standards of 20 years ago, unfortunately the conditions cannot be called attractive. Would a young person prefer to work in a job that can be considered heavy industry in an industrial region, or in one of the chain restaurants, offices or stores in a

Baha Akcura, from caterpillar/cable draw- ing belt supplier Baubelt, shared his thoughts on the current employment situation. The field we work in can be described as a closed box with its own rules and applications. Our sector occupies a more niche and limited area compared to major branches such as plastics, automotive, construction, transportation and logistics. For this reason, it is difficult to train personnel or to make this heavy industry job attractive. Another handicap is retaining those who have mastered the challenge and learned the job. There is also the situation of losing trained personnel to another company. Of course, there will be such changes due to free market conditions and employment principles. But along with this, such problems arise as “How will I provide employment instead?”

Aluminium flexible cable producer Sahra Kablo has been manufacturing in Istanbul since 1968. The company was founded in a small workshop, and continues today in facilities with 10,000m 2 of closed area. The aluminium flexible cables are designed for wind turbine generators, heat and power plants, railway vehicles, aircraft, automobiles, transformer stations, switching stations and control panels – photovoltaic/solar systems.

Aluminium flexible power cables are used for electrical power distribution. Sahra Kablo’s aluminium cable product range includes several variants. Sahra Kablo Class 5 conductor is highly flexible, fine stranded aluminium, and it is manufactured principally like IEC 60228 Class 5 and DIN VDE 0295. The lightweight, heavy-duty outer sheath is produced from PUR material. The claimed benefits of aluminium cables include up to 40 per cent lower weight compared to copper cables; easy to handle; flexibility; productivity; lower metal price fluctuations; and low risk of theft.

Sahra Kablo’s products include: • H07BQ-AF/S07BQ-AF flexible alumin- ium conductor, with optional anneal- ing, and XLPE insulation, filler cotton yarn and PUR sheath • H07BN4-AF/07BN4-AF flexible alumini- um conductor, with optional annealing, and colourful separator film/tape, EI 7 EPR insulation and EM 7 or CSP sheath • Wind turbine cables – flexible aluminium conductor, annealing of wires (optional), transparent separator film/tape, EPDM insulation, galvanised steel wire shielding and CSP sheath • Railway cables – CSP sheathed, flexible aluminium conductor and transparent separator tape
