Cutting-edge Niehoff! ▲ ▲ Interior of a DSI 1001 type double-twist stranding machine
A DSI stranding machine can be combined with a whole range of units and pay-offs as well thanks to its modular design. One of the special features is the double-twist backtwist pay-off, which enables up to three foils to be applied to a cable under controlled foil tension in inline operation. With the ‘triple twist’ function, the production speed can be substantially increased even further. Because of the modular concept, DSI stranding lines can be adapted to the requirements of each user and flexibly modified to manufacturing scheduling and planning and to changing cable designs and specifications. If a line is not fully utilised with the stranding of data cables, it can be used to manufacture other cables. It is also possible to realise completely the new manufacturing processes and to test the production of new products. Maschinenfabrik Niehoff GmbH & Co KG – Germany Website : www.niehoff.de
are designed to manufacture insulated conductors into pairs or quads or to strand conductor pairs into special cables with or without foils. Compared to conventional cable stranding machines, energy consumption and noise emissions of the DSI machines are significantly reduced due to their one-bow design and a state-of-the-art energy saving drive technology. A further characteristic is the contactless machine data transfer system which minimises maintenance and operational and material costs. The new DSI type machines are equipped with the newly designed and standardised NMI (Niehoff Machine Interface) touch-screen display with colour user interface and simplified navigation structure. The DSI machines are built for a wide conductor cross section range and a maximum strand diameter of 8.5mm or 15mm, respectively. The lay length can be freely adjusted over a wide range within a very narrow tolerance band.
Cables must meet ever more demanding tasks. As a consequence, cable design is continually becoming more complex. In order to comply with these requirements, cable manufacturers need up-to-date equipment which operates economically and can be used to produce reliably and efficiently all types of data and special cables. The DSI type double-twist stranding machines developed by Niehoff meet all these requirements. The DSI stranding concept is based on the successful design of Niehoff’s D series double-twist bunching machines, which represents a long-established experience in the design of wire bunching and cable stranding machines dating back to the late 1960s. After the newly developed series D bunching machine had been met with great acclaim by the market on its introduction in 1997, the first Niehoff stranding machine followed in the early 2000s, based on this series of machines.
