70 per cent smaller Ethernet interface offers miniaturisation potential

simple handling that excludes accidental loosening; new miniaturisation options; and secure transmission. Depending on the application, users can choose between straight or angled cable outlets, so even tight spaces in control cabinets will not present problems. For demanding environments, the ix Industrial interface will also be available in IP65/67 protected PushPull housings. Harting Stiftung & Co KG www.harting.com

interface offers device manufacturers and users a reliable industrial-grade connector. Core properties include 5,000 mating cycles, a robust metallic lock, THR shield contacts, 360° shielding, PoE/PoE+ and transmission up to 10 Gbit/s. The claimed benefits for Profinet users and manufacturers are a reliable contact in case of shock and vibration; fewer contact interruptions; acoustic feedback during insertion to signal secure locking;

The guideline “Profinet Cabling and Interconnection Technology – Guideline for Profinet Version 5.0”, published by PNO (the Profinet User Organization), gives Profinet users a set of rules for industrial cabling. In the Specific Passive Components section, the guideline specifies the ix Industrial® mating face as a new standard for Ethernet applications, providing an Ethernet interface that is more compact and more robust than previous RJ45 solutions. Profinet-compliant equipment are now able to develop more compact devices on a secure and reliable basis, and save valuable installation space in the control cabinet. With the ix Indus trial device socket’s 70 per cent smaller size (compared to RJ45 connections), the number of ports can be doubled for the same device size, or a device can be designed that is more compact. In addition to the miniaturisation and space savings, the Harting ix Industrial Manufacturers of
