Brands include Inductotherm, Inductoheat, Thermatool, Radyne, Banyard and Consarc. Inductotherm Heating & Welding Ltd www.inductothermhw.com InnoVites 11 C16 Enterprise software developer and vendor InnoVites will present CableERP, built on cloud-based Microsoft Dynamics 365. CableERP is ERP software designed exclusively for the wire and cable industry, and streamlines the operations of wire and cable manufacturers and distributors. It is an integrated part of CableSuite, which is designed to support the specific needs of the wire and cable industry in design, engineering, warehousing and logistics, sales, production, planning and finance. In addition to CableERP, CableSuite includes CableBuilder and CableMES from partner company Cimteq. CableBuilder is cable design and quotation software for all cable types, and assists with continuous product innovations and reduced quotation lead times. CableMES is a manufacturing execution system (MES) specifically for the wire and cable industry to drive productivity and process improvement. InnoVites will be present for the seventh time at wire Düsseldorf. Its team will be available to discuss the benefits of the company’s solutions: improving customer satisfaction by meeting cable requirements better and faster; reducing working capital and material losses by optimising for length in logistics and production; becoming more agile with reliable product data available online throughout the company; reducing risk of price volatility with the comprehensive non-ferrous metals module; optimising length (tolerance) management, cutting management, length-based planning, drum management and copper management; and optimising cable production productivity. Albert Groothedde, CEO at InnoVites, commented, “With visitors coming from across the world, wire 2022 is an excellent opportunity to meet people from the industry and discuss how to advance business with the latest IT solutions. As always, we look forward tomany inspiring conversations.” InnoVites www.innovites.com in the group

11 H30 Research into new methods for cold wire reduction is relatively rare in the industry. Many companies do not have an internal R&D department, while others are limited by older machinery and choose to follow established techniques that are known to provide certain results. However, experimentation in wire rolling could lead to new methods of reducing wire that are faster and cheaper. Wire rolling and tandem mills specialist Invimec has looked at some of the possibilities.

09 A50 Inductotherm Heating & Welding will be highlighting its Radyne Spring Wire Line system at wire 2022. With a number of successful installations in wire producing companies, the system is distinctive in its use of a water quenching system rather than the more traditional oil method. The system provides environmental benefits and improved process control, as well as preventing dimensional distortions. With environmental issues becoming more of a consideration for the wire industry, the induction system offers the environmental benefits of not only being more efficient to run, but also using liquids likemolten lead to temper the wire – there are no additional disposal costs. By using plain tap water for the quench, the impact on the wider environment is reduced. Inductotherm states that the bespoke system can future-proof businesses to allow for the cost of future carbon-footprint and related taxes. The Radyne Spring Wire Line (SWL) solution produces spring wire with an increased fatigue rate, which extends the life expectancy of the product when compared to traditional methods. It hardens and tempers high carbon spring steels, achieving a tensile strength of 2,000MPa, with a throughput of up to 1.5, 2 or 3 tons per hour.

Wire is manufactured from molten metal (or alloy) and solidified through casting and extrusion processes, but further processing is required before it can be sold. At this point, the starting diameter can vary, influenced by the technique and the equipment used. However, most wire is cold formed starting from Ø25mm down to diameters of 0.5mm after rolling and profiling. With older rolling mills, no further wire reduction could be achieved. There are several alternatives for cold wire reduction that vary according to the material and its final application and production needs. In Invimec’s experience of metal cold rolling, the most common wire manufacturing requirements include the presence of particular metallurgical properties: not all metals are the same – they have different intrinsic properties, linked to workability or ductility, that define to what degree a material can sustain plastic deformation under tensile stress before failure. Other requirements include moderate cost; the presence of particular thermal and electrical properties such as expansion or thermal capacity and conductivity; materials with particular shapes and dimensions, with specific tolerances that require special processing or applications; aesthetic characteristics to be preserved, such as surface polish and wear resistance; and the presence of specific mechanical characteristics related to reliability and durability, such as tensile strength or breaking load.

Visitors to the Inductotherm stand will be able to watch a 3D animation of the system and to talk through how it can benefit their business. Inductotherm Group offers technology for the engineering, manufacturing and service of thermal processing equipment used in the melting, heating, heat treating, forging, galvanising, coating, cutting and welding of metals. Bringing together 40 companies with 38 manufacturing facilities located in 23 countries, Inductotherm Group delivers products throughout the world.
