Swiss Competence Cluster

Whether it is cable manufacturing, metrology or tooling, SCC has through its members the expertise to tackle most of their challenges. All members are individual companies with their own specificities, but sharing the same core values. Together, as an association, they are better equipped to comprehend and size the needs of this industry and thus address tomorrow’s global trends in a proper way. There are clear cultural, commercial and technical synergies between the members of the association. The aim of SCC is to leverage these synergies for the benefit of the members and customers. The association’s objectives are: • Innovation: monitor technological trends to anticipate customers’ needs • Business: promote the image and skills of Swiss manufacturers supplying the cable industry • Communication: using group synergy to develop new methods of communi- cation • Intelligence: share technological and commercial trends and concerns • Partnership: collaborate with the Swiss government and foreign players/ organisations Technology and innovation skills centre Switzerland is a small country by size, but one that has a lot of technological know how and a great capacity for innovation. Hence, it is not surprising that many high quality and high performing products sold worldwide originate from Switzerland. For instance, the World Wide Web was invented at CERN, the largest particle physics laboratory in the world, in Geneva. In the more specific cable industry field, Switzerland has a long track record of innovative technologies. For example, Câbles de Cortaillod, founded in 1879, invented a press for producing lead sheathed electric cables as early as 1892. Members of the association spearhead pivotal developments, leading to patent grants. Examples are the measurement of linear resistance directly on the stranding machine (AESA), and mixing systems with co-kneader technology (Buss). Switzerland is not as expensive as perceived The acquisition of Swiss-made products represents asset investment that allows users to optimise production costs, reduce waste and strengthen their brand image. The value for money is recognised throughout the world and the resulting operational gains are
