“An upgraded transmission grid has the capacity to supply significant quantities of renewable energy such as wind and solar power, a more low emission transportation sector through electrification, and it will also allow green industries to establish operations in Norway,” said Rasmus Nord, president of Sweco Norway. Sweco has been a major contributor to the development of Norway’s electric power system for more than a century. Particularly through the last decade, the company has built extensive experience with Statnett projects. The unit will have an initial configuration of two production lines, with potential for expansion, and the company expects to achieve a production capacity of 25,000 tons per year. As Cabopol’s first production unit on the American continent it paves the way for expansion in this region, and follows the successful operation of production units in Serbia, Morocco and Portugal. in Monterrey’s industrial zone, will be equipped with the latest technology to enable the production of high-quality polymer compounds. Sweco has signed several framework agreements encompassing project planning, engineering and project and construction management for Statnett, the state-owned transmission system operator in Norway. The contract period is four years, with an estimated volume for Sweco of more than 500 MSEK, and a potential four-year extension. Statnett aims to double the transmission grid investments in the coming years, with support from Sweco experts and other parties. A steep increase in electric transmission enables decreased fossil energy consumption and is therefore key to Norway meeting its climate targets.
