It offers a portfolio of solutions to help customers enhance production quality. Advanced technologies such as interferometers and diffraction ensure high-speed measurements and accuracy. The company’s sensors can be used on- or off-line for non-contact measurement applications. In the mid-1980s, Cersa-MCI launched its first device for fine wire measurement. The LDS is still available today with one or two axes for diameter monitoring during the drawing process or for off-line measurements, fitted with accessories, for wires from 5µm to 2mm. For extrusion processes, Cersa-MCI offers the LPS-3-H to monitor diameter and detect lumps and neckdowns in a single product, for larger wire and cable diameters (0.3 to 5mm). This solution combines a diameter gauge and a flaw detector in one box. At wire 2024, Cersa-MCI will present its new measuring instruments, specifically its range of surface analysis equipment. Focusing on high-speed line measurement, the SQM-F (new patented technology) captures surface defects and displays their shape on screen. The SQM-F can be used on-line, and now also off-line using the Wire360 manual bench from Cersa. Visitors will have the opportunity to see this in action on several sample wires. Now available for round products from 15µm to 2,000µm, it provides a complementary solution to improve quality control. Conklad technology is available for applications such as AS wire, OPGW, CATV, sheathed composite cores, reinforced aluminium wire and other products requiring an aluminium sheath or non-ferrous cladding. BWE’s SheathEx™ technology was first developed in 2005. The process is used for ‘seamless’ aluminium sheathing of high voltage cables. Until now, all machines supplied globally have been for a corrugated aluminium sheath – a reliable process from 2 x 12mm diameter aluminium rods. BWE now offers a SheathEx line for both a corrugated and smooth aluminium sheath. One of the first SheathEx customers worked with BWE to develop and convert its line for both corrugated and smooth. Extensive tests in tandem with the plastic extruder allowed the cable to bend and wind on a drum without kinking or damaging the sheath. Existing customers are able to retrofit their corrugated line with this new technology. The SheathEx process provides a continuous and seamless aluminium sheath with no weld. The aluminium sheath has good conductivity and environmental properties and is light in weight. The use of standard CCR aluminium rod keeps material costs low.
