Ready for take-up? Many factors in the vast field of cable and wire production can complicate the selection of the right winder for a particular project.

The first decision is to choose between payoff and take-up – an important distinction from the beginning. Many winders and reelers can be used both for payoff or take-up. However, the direction of rotation and control unit must be set up accordingly. Switching from take up to payoff or vice versa is possible, but requires significant changes to the machine. The next important aspects to consider include coil size, coil weight, product properties and production speed. Not every conductor can be wound on every coil: there are physical limitations. The operator must maintain certain degrees of deflection and take into account the weight that presses down to the lowest layer.
