Providing pure raw material Industrie Polieco-MPB uses Sikora’s Purity Scanner Advanced to ensure material purity for its adhesives. The Italy-based company is a compounder of polyethylene and polypropylene, and through its pipe division (Polieco) manufactures high-density polyethylene corrugated pipe systems.

The Purity Scanner Advanced detects pellets with colour deviations, such as light yellow or light beige pellets instead of colourless pellets, as well as small black spots on the pellet surface. These may occur because of side-reactions during the production of grafted polymers. The system automatically sorts out all detected contamination, starting at a size of 50µm. It also provides various statistics and an image gallery of the detected contamination, which helps Industrie Polieco-MPB to monitor and improve its production process. “During the development and continuous improvement of our production processes, we have been able to minimise the formation of black spots and of pellets with colour deviations,” said Marina Ausonio, research and development executive at Industrie Polieco-MPB. “However, the presence of such defects cannot be completely avoided. Sorting systems like Sikora’s Purity Scanner Advanced have the essential task to get rid of such residual defects so that we can provide our clients a superior quality material.” Sikora AG www.sikora.net Industrie Polieco-MPB www.mpb.it The new 100LV floor traversing take-up and payoff from Maillefer is designed to meet the demands of heavy-load carrying capacity and a broad reel range. It is suitable for extended production in EHV jacketing and power cable manufacturing lines. The FTU/FPO 100LV joins Maillefer’s existing floor traversing machine range, with portal design and consisting of two vertical stands with pintles. The stands are joined at the top by a horizontal telescopic shaft, which minimises machine width. Loads of up to 100 tons can be carried, with reel sizes up to 5,000mm (both flange diameter and width). Take-up and payoff for wire and cable

Within its compounding division (MPB), the company uses sorting systems for quality control to inspect and sort pellets that will be mainly used for films for food packaging. For this, Industrie Polieco-MPB relies on Sikora’s Purity Scanner Advanced inspection and sorting system to ensure high material quality. The system is used at the final step of the production process in order to inspect for impurities in maleic-anhydride grafted functional polymers. These polymers are used as adhesives and/or coupling agents, and must be absolutely pure as they are further processed into products that will come in contact with food or drinking water. Among other applications, the material is used as tie-layer in multilayer film structures for food packaging or as tie-layer in multilayer pipes for hot and
