Roll grinders and digital texturing for Aluminum Dynamics Aluminum Dynamics LLC, a Steel Dynamics Inc joint venture, has awarded Tenova a new contract for its aluminium flat rolling mill located in Columbus, Mississippi, USA. The contract is for the design and supply of technologies offered by roll grinder specialist Pomini Tenova. The scope of work includes two foundationless combination roll grinders, two foundationless work and intermediate roll grinders, and one Pomini Digital Texturing™ machine (PDT™) equipped with four laser heads for texturing of cold mill work rolls. Tenova will also provide a roll shop management system for the management of the roll shop production data, which is interfaced with the Pomini roll grinders and Aluminum Dynamics’ level two and business management software. The roll grinders are equipped with an advanced set of automated devices, including the new Pomini Digital Surface Analysis (PDSA), automatic roll demagnetiser and on-line automatic roughness measurement, as well as a full range of non-destructive testing (NDT) devices for roll inspection. The use of the PDSA in conjunction with Pomini Inspektor3, in its complete configuration, ensures the surface quality of the roll and its internal structural integrity.

With more than 100 years of experience in resistance welding, Amada Weld Tech is aware of the challenges of joining applications in battery pack production. By combining the knowledge from its in-house design department with the expertise of its application and research labs, resistance welding systems can be created to make daily operation as efficient as possible. BMZ aims to extend its market position by investing early in enlarging production capacity, in order to continue to meet the rise in customer demand. Amada will provide process stability and repeatability by supplying proven, reliable welding systems. The energy storage market is estimated to almost quadruple its worldwide volume by 2027. The rising demand is a result of increased responsibility among industry and homeowners, as part of the energy transition for climate development. Dave Fawcett, CEO of Amada Weld Tech’s European and American operations, commented, “After being able to already supply our valued client, BMZ, with many of our AWS-3 Jupiter RW resistance welding systems in the past, this latest major order is, to date, our biggest deal with BMZ. We look forward to fulfilling this latest order and to continue our successful business partnership into the future.” Amada Weld Tech www.amadaweldtech.eu BMZ Group www.bmz-group.com The adoption of foundationless technology for the roll grinders will allow for a simplified construction process and efficient installation in the roll shop. “We are excited to work with Tenova on this project,” said Glenn Pushis, president of Aluminum Dynamics. “Partnering with a leader in this space, their focus on decarbonisation, and high quality equipment drove this crucial decision.” Petar Rokic, sales area manager at Pomini Tenova, commented, “The selection of PDT to address the higher requirements of product quality for automotive and appliances production is perfectly aligned with the client’s focus on decarbonisation. “This equipment – an advanced fibre-laser based technology – substantially reduces the energy utilisation when comparing it with the previous processes based on electro-discharge.” Tenova SpA www.tenova.com
