products for the cable, wire and extrusion industry. The cable drying and vacuum combination is designed to put an end to quality-check failures due to the presence of moisture in production, and will be unveiled at wire 2020. Engineered to remove residual moisture from water-cooled insulated wire, cable and extruded products, the new Cable Dryer and Pro le Dryer combination atomises water and then collects residual moisture. Particularly e ective in small diameter production – where quality failure is common due to the presence of moisture – ACI’s solution is claimed to enable reliable production rates of up to 1,000m/min. Designed to achieve both running cost savings and improved cable and wire drying e ciencies, ACI’s blower-driven units bring the added bene t of reduced energy consumption, compared to air wipe alternatives. Capable of drying cable ranging from 0.2 to 65mm in diameter, the drop-in Cable Dryer unit, which is only 950mm long, can be used independently of the Pro le Dryer, which is of most use in the production of small diameter cable, wire and extrusion. ACI managing director Chris Hellier said, “Until now, the removal of the residual moisture lm from water-cooled insulated wire/cable and extruded products has been di cult to achieve e ectively and consistently, resulting in high rates of quality test failures, especially with very small diameters where the majority of quality check failures occur. This is a huge issue for the sector, leading to vast product wastage, unnecessary over-production due to remanufacturing requirements, avoidable energy use and disposal costs.” ACI designs and manufactures industrial air movement products for the cable, wire and extrusion industries. Based in Devon, UK, ACI also has a sister company in Windsor, Maine, USA, established in 2008 to support increased demand in North America, as well as an extensive network of distributors. changed while the blank passes through. The user only enters the geometry of the blank into the CNC control unit; the machine adapts the rolling parameters automatically. AMBA specialises in machines for the production of long parts with varying cross-sections, such as bolts between 60 and 2,500mm long, tubes and spokes. At wire 2020, the company will also showcase its machines for rolling and knurling pinned joints for bike rims. These parts used to be manufactured by subtractive machining, but AMBA’s all-in-one machine only requires one process step to form nished pinned joints directly from the cut wire rod. Aachener Maschinenbau GmbH www.amba.de Gaia by AESA Cortaillod is a new automatic, high voltage, low frequency and insulation resistance multiple wire tester. Gaia automatic tester for up to 208 wires can reduce testing time. It tests the dielectric strength up to 5kV AC and 6kV DC on cables built with pairs or quads. It also measures insulation resistance (IR) and low frequency (LF) parameters (RCKE), and derives high frequency (HF) parameters (attenuation, impedance, phase, propagation and crosstalk). Gaia is modular and is available in three di erent sizes – Small (8-24 wires), Medium (32-104 wires) and Large (112-208 wires), with corresponding connecting frames and self-cutting knives for quick mounting of all kinds of cable packages, and sizes up to 2.5mm. It is equipped with active and passive safety systems. The control and testing units are separated from each other, to allow the testing unit to be locked in a controlled protection cage. All of the modules, which are built to be robust for the rough environment of the shop oor,
