AEI will showcase its rigid stranders, which deliver accurate back tension, smooth strand deviation and precise lay control. These features are required for quality compacted conductor in case of low, medium and EHV power cables and for high production speeds in case of overhead conductor manufacture. Enhanced cage speeds and the use of fully automatic bobbin batch loading systems further ensure higher production e ciencies and uptime. Also on display will be the redesigned heavy duty compacting head suitable for high tolerance Milliken conductor, and other heads including the recently developed TW for manufacture of the latest generation HTLS/trapezoidal wire overhead conductor. The company has also launched the HWS1 – Handy Wire Scanner, a fully portable optical micrometer for non-contact measurement of wires, cables and other similar products. Developed by Aeroel with LED and CCD technology, it uses two crossed linear sensors to automatically compensate positioning errors (patent pending). Thanks to a powerful single chip microprocessor, the micrometer is linearised and compensated to obtain the maximum precision in the entire eld of measurement, regardless of an accurate positioning of the wire. The measurement is started by pressing the trigger and takes only a few seconds. The display provides the operator with interactive information to place the wire in the useful measurement area and displays the measurement result. All measurements are saved in the memory of the scanner, associated with the date, time and the number of machine. Through a USB connection, data can be downloaded to any PC.
