Stranding line tailored for cable manufacturers

WTM manufactures complete lines for stranding and taping

Working in the wire and cable market for thirty years, WTM designs, develops and manufactures equipment such as concentric cable taping machines, single-twist stranders and cable sintering lines. Since 2005 the company has developed and manufactured complete lines for the stranding and taping insulation of electrical conductors. It currently offers a large portfolio of stranding equipment for special cables, developed with a focus on the customer process to ensure precision in tension control, accuracy on lay length and quality of the final product. WTM single-twist stranding machines are designed to produce a wide range of cables, characterised by flexibility and accuracy on the lay-length, for sectors of application such as automotive, robotics, telecommunication, instruments, data transmission and energy. The company can supply single-shaft or double-pintle take-ups in four sizes, to cover reels ranging from Ø 400 to 1,250mm. The single-shaft design offers a smooth deposition path, obtained by angles and pulley designed to bend the cable as little as possible during the winding phase, and the “low-stress” wire guide principle, which removes the reversing stress on the cable. The double-pintle solution provides flexibility and perfor mance, with the use of a reel-supporting system that can use a large range of reel sizes, and a compact structure. The high-tech flyer cage, based on a hinged structure, is able to compensate for the centrifugal forces at high speed to avoid structural im pact, while an innovative sliding trolley allows proper cable laying control. To complete the stranding line, WTM offers: • Back-twist payoffs with twist control from 0 to 130 per cent, for reels from DIN 400 to DIN 800, in single or multiple overlying configuration according to the dimensions of the reels, and with dancer tension control. • Rotating capstans, with the ability to act as master of the line, to pull the cable and control the tension with the integrated dancer, or as slave if the tension required increases. • Longitudinal tapers, single or double, to wrap the stranded cables with tapes in spools, pads or jumbo spools, with tension control by dancer. • Concentric tapers to close the cable with pads or spools, with tension control by dynamic dancer or torque control, with a wide application range.
