facturers, but also a complete taping line for mica and other tape application. Gurfil’s line for fire-retardant tape applica- tion consists of a high-speed spool and pad head type vertical taping machine, payoff and take-up. It can operate with all Gurfil tapes, including fire-retardant mica tape, aluminium foil laminates, PET film and fibreglass tape. The company’s easy-to-operate vertical taping machines work with spools at up to 3,000 rpm, and can be used with tape wound in pads or spools. A flexible system of options provides the ability to choose taping machines according to need and budget. Services for taping machines include commissioning, after sales guarantee and maintenance. paper, crepe paper and PP identification tape. In addition to traverse spool wound products, especially for mica tape Gurfil recommends “step by step”winding. A step-wound spool is a reel that is a com bination of a pad (pancake) and a spool. The principle is to wind the material for a given number of revolutions and then traverse the material to the next position for winding again. The multiple pancakes then give support to each other. This minimises the possibil ity of the tape dropping off the edge of the spool during high-speed pay-out. Following international market trends for flame-retardant cables, in 2022 Gurfil increased spool mica tape production by 30 per cent over the previous year. The company supplies not only flame retardant raw materials for cable manu-

Many cable factories are focused on optimising existing manufacturing pro- cesses to increase production capacity. With more than 40 years of experience, Gurfil supplies equipment and spooling technologies for cable industry – not only machines and raw materials, but also complex technological solutions designed to meet cable manufacturers’ production needs. Greater length of material is one advantage of spool-wound cable raw material. A cable manufacturer can run high-speed taping equipment for longer without interruption, saving time on changing spools and minimising cable waste. Spool wound materials also have safer packaging for transportation. Gurfil offers spool-wound materials such as ALU/PET, CU/PET, polyester (Mylar) tape, mica tape, fibreglass tape, Kraft
