▲ ▲ The newly renovated control panel, now fully back at work
As good as new after 90,000 operating hours
A big advantage for the user is Niehoff service specialists knowing the philosophy behind the machines and having their experience, know-how and practical expertise stemming from their decades of work with Niehoff machines worldwide. In certain cases, it may be useful to install new components during a modernisation project in order to expand the functions of the machine. For example, a wire drawing machine originally designed for one wire could be converted into a two-wire machine. It would also be possible to install a quick die-change system and an additional device for the drawing of profile wire. It is also possible to equip a modernised machine with sensors in order that machine data can be recorded and analysed according to Industry 4.0. Niehoff is able to reliably prove which performance improvements can be achieved by modernisation measures in every case. Maschinenfabrik Niehoff GmbH & Co KG – Germany Website : www.niehoff.de
Simultaneously, the Niehoff branch in Leuterschach, also in Germany, created the new circuit diagram and equipped the new control cabinets. As required by the user, the overhaul of the mechanical and the electrical parts of the machine were carried out separately. Niehoff mechanics disassembled the machine, cleaned its components, replaced the worn components, rebuilt the machine and put it back into operation. By using special tools, working time and machine downtime were reduced to a minimum. In order to keep the machine downtime as short as possible, a few of the user’s employees took up some tasks. They switched off the machine at the scheduled time, removed the old control cabinets, set up the new control cabinets and connected them with the machine according to the Niehoff wiring diagram. In the second renovation phase, a Niehoff electrician installed the new AC motors and the new control panel, checked the entire wiring and put the machine, now completely overhauled, into operation again. Since then, the machine has been working on schedule as before the modernisation measure.
MACHINES from Maschinenfabrik Niehoff are of quality, performance and stable value. Therefore, it is worth modernising these machines after many years of operation and to have Niehoff specialists update them to the latest technological state. One example of such a modernisation is an M85 type rod breakdown machine. After around 90,000 hours of operation, the machine was completely overhauled and has been operating as reliably as a new machine since. In each modernisation project, Niehoff and the user of the machine first discuss the measures to be taken on site, the scope and time frame. In this case, it was also planned to equip the machine with new AC motors and a completely new electrical system. This included new control cabinets, equipped with a Siemens S7 controller, and a new control panel. The required spare parts such as bearings, seals, cables in OEM quality and the new motors were provided in the Niehoff parent company in Schwabach, Germany, and were sent to the location of the machine.
