DYNAMEX Corp of Carson, California, USA, is now offering its new high-speed multi-position advanced neutraliser payoff. The payoff is PLC/HMI controlled and offers extended HMI control of its operation. The wire tension can be set individually in the HMI for each position, and it is maintained during the emptying of each reel. The momentary diameter of each reel is displayed, and a “low wire”warning is displayed individually. Each position can be selected when used, and deselected from the HMI. The payoff senses the absence of any reel and automatically sets it as “unused.” The reel brakes can automatically be set to a higher level during decal to prevent reel overrunning. Individual broken wire sensing is automatically disabled for “unused” positions. The machine is completely guarded, with doors locked and interlocked during operation. The payoff communicates with the Dynamex cabler and provides a “ready” signal. The neutraliser can be selected or unselected from the cabler control panel. The neutraliser-cabler communication is optimised on the Dynamex cablers, but the payoff can run successfully with other cablers.

Advertorial on behalf of Decalub Rod rust and scale removal – dry, green and clean Wire rod rust is no longer an alarming phenomenon since the introduction of the Smooth-Brush (SB) wire rod green and dry cleaning system. Installed in-line after a simple rod reverse bending descaler, the SB system removes excess rod scale and rust, converting more than 95 per cent of rod scale into useful micro-abrading rotating pads, providing extreme efficiency and simplicity in rod dry cleaning applications, H/C and L/C, including 0.98% C.

Continuously scale provides in-line an extremely receptive 5-micron size texture, white metal clean satin finish, enhancing lubricant pick up, and enabling powder lubricant to be chemically and mechanically interlocked to the rod surface, forming a high-performance anti-wear and anti-friction conversion coating that is found to perform comparably to or better than zinc phosphate, or any other in-line wet pre-coating chemical. liberated rod

This achieves in-line direct dry drawing from mechanically descaled uncoated

bare rod, at virtually zero energy consumption and zero maintenance cost, in a totally green and dry application, greatly increasing lubrication performance in demanding operations using low-borax powders. The SB rod cleaning is used in the most demanding wire drawing applications, including spring wire, plating wire, galvanised wire, PC strand wire, Al clad wire, cold-heading wire, CO 2 welding wire, etc. The SB rod dry cleaning system replaces the most costly operations in wire rod cleaning processes (replacing acid and other aggressive wet chemicals), generating substantial cost savings, environmental benefits and an improvement in productivity.
