Fully automatic ultrasonic PCD/ND die polishing machine

Upon completion of the program, the drill head lifts and the next die can be worked immediately with the same or a modified program. Needle changing is simple, and up to 20 dies can be worked with a single needle. The machine has a self-contained bench unit, housing the ultrasonic generator, drill head, die spindle and grinding assemblies, together with the electronic and pneumatic systems. The machine, which operates on 220V single phase, was designed to simplify all operations, adjustments and maintenance.

Ajex & Turner has developed a new automatic machine for repairing dia- mond and PCD dies in a size range from 0.1 to 4mm. While maintaining accurate and con- sistent die geometry, automatic needle grinding makes it possible to reduce each machining cycle to only a few seconds. This feature makes the machine particularly useful for the repair of multi line sets or in operations where a large number of dies must be maintained with accurately controlled reduction angles.

Quality control for busbar Producing insulated flat copper and aluminium wires, cables or bars is highly complex and requires sophisticated knowledge within the extrusion

business. The corresponding measuring tools – for process monitoring and quality control – are the basis for performing at high production capability. With many years of experience in the field of various measuring technologies, Zumbach offers tailor-made solutions for the continuous measurement and monitoring of non-round products, covering dimensional, geometric and wall thickness measurement, insulation fault testing, length and speed monitoring as well as process control. The uniform alignment of wall thickness centrally around the circumference of a profile is critical to the performance of a conductor. On non-round products the additional challenge for maintaining control is that it is necessary to accurately measure the wall thickness around the circumference. Using UMAC® ultrasonic measuring tech- nology, Zumbach offers customised transducer holders that are specifically tailored to insulated flat products. Providing four, six or even more measur-

ing point solutions (to achieve maximum measurement coverage), precise infor- mation about the positioning of the conductor bar within the insulation is provided in real time. Outside dimen- sions, profile geometry, insulation defects and length are also important process and quality parameters. Zumbach offers a range of quality monitoring solutions for extrusion measurement and process control, including ODAC® XY with oscillating device; DVW/DVO for measuring the outer dimension; Profilemaster PMM Series non-contact measurement of outer dimension and geometry; Sparktester high voltage insulation fault detector; LSV speed and length sensors; and the USYS processor, acquisition and display system.
