Enhanced grounding solution for the energy market

AFL accessories product line manager. “We believe this solution will strengthen the power infrastructure by providing increased performance, cost savings and reliability in an enhanced theft-resistant package.” OnyxCCS builds upon AFL’s standard CopperClad Steel, offering the same benefits and inherent strength, but with a chemically etched surface treatment Mario Frigerio SpA MFL Group is a family-owned company specialising in industrial machinery for wire, cable and rope manufacturers. Estab- lished in 1897 as a small workshop, the group is now spread across six manufacturing plants (in Italy, Germany, Spain and China) and nine sales/service offices (in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the USA and China). The group has an extensive machinery portfolio, and the capability to engineer and manufacture complete production plants. Read the full story in the March issue

Fibre optic cable and equipment manufacturer AFL has expanded its CopperClad Steel (CCS) wire line with the OnyxCCS® solution. This latest addition to AFL’s conductor accessories line is specifically designed for the electric utility market and offers seamless integration into existing infrastructure. “OnyxCCS is an innovative solution for the energy market,” said Mike Tolman, Maschinenfabrik Niehoff develops and manufactures machines that meet the requirements of sustainability, while enabling energy savings and simul- taneously ensuring material- and cost efficient production processes. At wire 2024, the company will display a next generation rod breakdown line featuring a new and patented annealing system and increased production speed, along with innovations in the field of multi-wire drawing. The surface of OnyxCCS is darkened by a chemically etched treatment

that darkens the standard CCS. This process discourages theft of a utility’s copper infrastructure but does not compromise mechanical or electrical properties. Engineered to withstand harsh environ- mental conditions, OnyxCCS ensures uninterrupted performance and relia- bility. With its resistance to corrosion and extended lifespan, it provides long term operational dependability while promoting sustainable practices. The steel core provides increased strength compared to standard copper in tensioned applications, and potentially reduces outages caused by copper theft. OnyxCCS is available in all sizes of AFL’s CopperClad Steel wire product line. AFL www.aflglobal.com

Certain steel and iron wires must have a high surface quality. The optoelectronic inspection system from the Japanese inspection equipment manufacturer FUTEC is ideally suited to continuously inspect the surface of such wires during the production process. The device accepts diameters from 0.5 to 60mm and can be easily integrated into production lines without having to modify them. While the wire is passing through, the system captures surface defects, registers their size, shape, positi on and number and displays them on a screen. The line operator recognises tolerance violations and can correct the production process. The inspection technology is based on a method developed for 2D surfaces, which has been used industrially for more than 40 years. A special feature of the inspection technology is that it works with only one camera. The high-speed CCD line scan camera, an LED ring lighting and several mirrors are housed in a camera box. The units for signal processing and defect indication are installed in a control cabinet, which can be placed near the camera box. Visit us on stand 15A13 at wire 2024 Düsseldorf, April 15-19, 2024. There you can have your own wires tested. Please contact us to make an appointment. FUTEC Europe GmbH, Hochstr. 17, 47228 Duisburg, Germany www.futeceurope.com silvio.neumann@futeceurope.com
