Steel wire, cable & rod Butt welding for steel wires Ideal-Werk manufactures wire butt welding machines for wiredrawing mills, cable factories and wire fabricators. A wide range of machines, Ideal types DSH 010 – DSH 180, is offered for welding steel wire. The welders are said to produce constant draw resistant welds and have a high welding capacity as well as superior reproducibility of welds in all material grades within a wide welding range from 0.1mm to 18mm wire diameters. The machine is designed for ease of operation by unskilled labour with a common setting of jaw distance. The machine design is rigid and long lasting for tough working conditions. Low maintenance cost is combined with easy access to all machine components. Several types of annealing devices are offered for annealing of welds in medium to high carbon steel wire. Accessories such as incorporated wire shears, grinding motors and undercarriages with two or four wheels are also available. All Ideal butt welders are engineered to weld wire and stranded conductors as perfectly, as easily and as rapidly as possible.

Three-roll precision block PSM® and bar steel finishing end from SMS Meer The Timken Company, Canton, Ohio, USA, has commissioned jointly with SMS Meer, a company of the SMS group, Germany, the expansion of the existing bar mill at Harrison Steel Mill in Canton, Ohio. With this expansion, Timken is able to extend the product size range, increase the mill capacity and improve the quality of the SBQ (special bar quality) bars produced in the range from 25mm to 127mm (round). Tolerances of 1/2 ASTM and better were already being achieved shortly after commissioning. SMS Meer supplied a three-roll precision sizing mill (PSM) and a bar finishing end with cooling bed, cut-off unit and loading facilities. The PSM is installed downstream of the existing rolling mill and permits a standardised pass design to be employed in the roughing and intermediate mill (one-family rolling) and the infinitely variable production of finished sizes by means of roll adjustment (free-size rolling). The precision sizing mill consists of five roll cassettes each with three rolls. The rolls are positioned hydraulically and permit adjustment even under load, including automatic gauge control and monitor control using a laser measuring device installed down line of the PSM for product size measurement. A CARTA ® process model is provided for setting the process parameters. SMS Meer has also supplied the complete electrical equipment.
The automation system was jointly developed by SMS Meer and Timken.
