New plant in China Teknor Apex is carrying out start-up procedures for a plant in Suzhou, China, that will produce compounds for the appliance, automotive, building, electronics, medical device, wire and cable, and other markets. Operating the plant will be a new company, Teknor Apex (Suzhou) Advanced Polymer Compounds Co Pte Ltd.

Additional capacity will come on stream within the next two years, according to Bertram M Lederer, executive vice-president of Teknor Apex.

“The Suzhou initiative is the latest in an ongoing series of expansions and acquisitions that has established Teknor Apex as a single source for customers that process in different locations around the world and require precisely the same compounds at each one,” Mr Lederer said.

The plant will have the capability to manufacture rigid and flexible vinyl and thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) products like those developed in the USA by Teknor Apex and in Singapore by Singapore Polymer Corporation (SPC); engineering thermoplastics (ETPs) produced in the UK and USA by Chem Polymer (also a Teknor Apex company); and other speciality compounds developed by SPC. “Teknor Apex Suzhou will provide Chinese processors with fast access to custom compounds that meet UL, NSF,

“In addition, our product line is now so wide-ranging that we can supply many of these customers with multiple compounds as far different as, for example, a rigid glass-reinforced nylon and a soft, rubber-like TPE.
