Hydraulic crimping pliers for connecting two wire ends
Petig has developed a new solution to the problem of joining a wire end with the start of the wire of a new coil. The new method allows the connection of two wires with the help of a short length of tubing, which must meet the requirements as the wire is pickled or annealed. Petig’s Hydrocut steel cutters are well-suited to this application. Instead of a shearing blade, crimping tools are employed, that are provided with a tooth-shaped crimping edge. Prior to the crimping, the connection tubing is pushed over the end of one coil and the start of the second coil. The Hydrocut, in this case model HC 530-3W, is then used to apply two crimping actions, and the connection is ready. A tension test has shown that 25-30 kN can be achieved.

The value depends on the strength of the wire and the penetration depth reached in the crimping action. The crimping pliers and the hydraulics can be supplied as a mobile unit that is easily transported.
