T he very definition of wire incorporates a reference to drawing machinery: an elongated strand of drawn metal. And the drawing process is the silent partner to whatever else is done to wire to ensure that it satisfies the requirements of the end user. Crimping. Stranding. Insulating. Jacketing. These and every other downstream process depend on wire of exact composition, drawn to exact diameter. While an elongated strand of metal offers little margin for error, even so it is governed by the same laws of physics that operate everywhere. The skin effect in electrical conductance – the power loss at high frequencies when current travels near the surface – is not suspended because the ‘skin’ of a single- strand wire is of microscopic thickness. While perfection is much to ask, wire happens to be a narrow, attenuated product that must meet colossal demands. Whether intended for an application as fine as the gauze (from the Persian: silk) on top of a Bunsen burner, or as mighty as a coaxial cable, wire must be perfectly drawn from its first pass through die or draw plate – reliably, repeatably, certifiedly. Anything less would be a waste of effort, material, time and money.
Experience counts for Trafco
With more than 40 years of experience in the field of rolling and drawing non-ferrous metals and power cable production, Trafco has always succeeded in introducing new technology into the design, construction and reconditioning of its range of machinery and equipment for the manufacture of all types of wire, cable and flat wire rope. The relatively small size of the company and the advantages of its method of production enable it to construct, customise and improve production lines rapidly.
The company’s principal markets – the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Europe – now account for 90% of exports. Co- operation with overseas agents and the company’s fast response times result in profitable relations with customers who have relied on Trafco to improve and expand their plant with increased productivity for decades. Important results have been achieved in large projects for the
