Patent proves its worth

Rad–Con Inc, a manufacturer of industrial furnaces since 1966, has moved its corporate offices to Lake- wood, Ohio USA, from its previous location in nearby Bay Village. The space has been configured to accommodate Rad–Con’s growing staff of engineers and programmers, as well as to consolidate its warehouse activities. A patent secured by a small Welsh company has proved its worth in a legal battle against steel giant Corus. The Court of Appeal has upheld a ruling that Corus infringed a valid patent owned by Qual-Chem; a move which forced the company to close. The company’s former managing director, Keith Harris, brought the case against Tata. The ruling has left Corus with a liability to pay compensation and a legal bill of over £1m. The Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys commented that Keith Harris’s foresight in obtaining patent protection for his invention was the key to him winning the case against Corus. “This case shows that, with a strong patent and the right legal team, small companies can take on big multinationals and win.“ Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys – UK Website : www.cipa.org.uk

The distributor, Allied Wire & Cable, has relocated its Wisconsin office and warehouse from Elkhorn, WI to a larger 20,000 sq ft facility in Pewaukee, WI. The new space allows for the addition of machines and employees while leaving room for future expansion. “We are proud that we are moving to a larger facility.
